Website Booking Policy

You must be eighteen years of age or older to book a room whether on our website; www.sandshotelmargate.co.uk ("Site") or otherwise. When you make a booking using our Site you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

When you make a booking on behalf of other people you are also confirming that you are authorised to do so and acknowledge that all members of your party agree to these terms and conditions. You are also agreeing that you will be personally responsible for all financial obligations as a result of your use of this Site or a booking by any other means on behalf of others.

When your booking has been made a confirmation will be sent to you by email or post, using the details that you have supplied during the booking process.

Arrival & Departure

Check-in time is from 2.30pm. If you wish to arrive earlier, we would be happy to store your luggage for you and have this ready in your room for when you return.

Please check-out by 11am on the day of departure.

Should you require an earlier check-in or a later check-out, we will endeavour to accommodate you as best we can, subject to availability. Particular requests may incur a supplementary charge.

Cancellation and Payments

Guests will be asked to provide full card details for a payment deposit to cover the costs of the total accommodation charges at the time of booking. Card details provided will be used to process any additional charges that may occur. Individual bookings must be cancelled by 3.00pm local time two days prior to the arrival date, to avoid a cancellation charge amounting to 100% of the total cost of the reservation.

If you have either a) reserved a room for more than three nights, or, b) reserved more than three rooms - then £50 per room per night, from your initial advanced payment will be retained and is non-refundable. If cancellation notice is provided four weeks prior to arrival, we are able to credit a full refund.

Group Policy

If you are booking more than three rooms please contact the Hotel Reservations Team to provide the best available price and package.

Photography and Filming at Sands Hotel.
All photography or filming MUST be authorized by a member of the Sands Hotel Management team. Photography or filming MUST NOT take place in any area of the Sands Hotel under any circumstances without an assigned representive from the Sands Hotel. Members of the Sands staff and the Sands uniforms or part thereof will not be used in the photography or filming and no staff role will be impersonated for the purposed of the photography or filming. Use of the Sands Hotel brand name, commercial photography, Sands Hotel images or logos including trademarks or trade names requires the prior written consent of the Sands Hotel. The Sands will take appropriate legal action to restrain any misuse or unauthorized usage of the Sands Hotel collateral listed above.

Online Security

By making your travel purchase through our online booking engine, you are protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, utilized by most popular browsers, including Netscape and Microsoft Explorer. Through encryption, the personal information you enter, including your name, address and credit-card information, is converted into code that is then securely dispatched over the Internet.

Data Protection/Privacy

Your personal information refers to the data obtained from you in connection with the service provided. Your privacy is important to us and we promise to respect your personal information, which will be dealt with in accordance with our privacy policy.
Information is collected lawfully and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and we will do our best to ensure that your details are accurate and up-to-date.
We will use your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy and for the following reasons so that we can provide you with a first class service:

  • To confirm, update and improve customer records
  • Identify and inform you of services that may be of interest. You may "opt-out" or choose to be excluded from such communications by the tick box on our online reservations form.
  • Your personal information will not be disclosed to any third party, unless we have your permission or where there are special circumstances, such as when we believe, in good faith, the disclosure is to protect the safety of other guests, our employees, the public or as required by law.

Cookie Usage

Cookies are small amounts of information that are sent to and are stored on your computer. They are used by the group to identify you when you visit the Site, and to make your use of the Site more convenient for you. If you do not wish to have Cookies placed on your computer you can disable Cookies on your Internet browser.

Call Monitoring and Recording

To ensure that you are provided with a first class service, telephone calls may be monitored or recorded for quality control and training purposes.

Limitation of Liability

We shall under no circumstances whatsoever be liable to any users of our Site or in connection with the supply or failure to supply our products or services, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise for any loss of profit, or any indirect or consequential loss arising under or in connection with such use or supply. Any liability shall not in any event exceed the amount paid by you. This limitation shall only operate to exclude or limit any liability as permitted by law.

Car Parking

Prior to your arrival we would recommend reserving one of the parking permits we have available for Market Street car park. This is the nearest car park available (a 2-minute walk from the hotel) and is operated by the council. We charge £5 per permit per 24 hours. Please pick your permit up from reception when you arrive in Margate. We would also be happy to help you take the bags in from the car and take them up to the room ready for when you have parked the car. Please return the permit to hotel reception at the time of check-out. If a permit is not returned the cost of arranging a replacement permit, namely £25, will be charged to the payment card used to pay for your stay at the hotel. This service is provided by the Hotel, however the Hotel accepts no liability for any loss or damage of personal items or vehicles whilst in the Hotel car park.

Number of guests per room

The maximum numbers of guests per room may vary depending on the room type. Six of our twenty bedrooms can cater for up to four guests, with the use of our pull out double sofa beds. A surcharge will be applied for additional guests including breakfast. Each room must have an adult aged 18 years or older. There are no expectations allowed to this policy.

Cots are available free of charge, put up ready for arrival. Please note that only certain room types can accommodate a cot due to space.

Guest registration
All guests are required to complete a guest registration card on check in which will include name, address and signature. For regular guests this will be required on all stays as a record of your stay at the Hotel. All guests occupying the room must provide their name at the time of booking or on arrival. If all guests occupying the room are authorized to charge back services to the room, all guests must sign the hotel registration form for signature verification purposes. Signing of the registration card confirms you are agreeing to the hotel’s policies and procedures. Failure to comply with our policies will lead to additional charges or further action.

At the time of registration, the payment card used at the time of booking will need to be presented for security and policy procedures.


Sands Hotel and The Bay Bar & Restaurant is non-smoking throughout. The entire hotel is a smoke free zone including all bedrooms, balconies and roof terrace areas. If you are a smoker, please smoke outside at either the Marine Drive or High Street entrance of the hotel. Any guest found in breach of the Hotels non-smoking policy will be charged additional cleaning fees from a minimum of £100.00 and loss of revenue compensation. Guests may be requested to vacate the hotel room and the premises and forfeit all deposits made with the Hotel.


Pets are allowed on request. Charges may apply. 

Housekeeping services

Housekeeping will service every guest room daily between the hours of 10.00-16.00, seven days a week. It is hotel policy that every guest room is accessed by Hotel employee for housekeeping purposes on a daily basis. ‘Do not disturb’ signs are available to display on your room door, should you not wish to use this service.
